THE PURPOSE AND POWER OF FOLLOW-UP

*BIBLE READING: JOHN 15:16; JOHN 17:12; JOHN 18:9; PROVERBS 27:23; ACTS 20:28*

“While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Thy Name; those that Thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the Scripture might be fulfilled.” John 17:12(KJV).

Here, Jesus was giving an account of His Stewardship to the Father over the souls that the Latter gave Him because the instruction was to win souls and that the souls would abide. *(Jn. 15:16).* It is imperative to know also that we all that are in one form of stewardship or another will give account for every soul that God brings our way at the Judgement Seat of Christ *(2Cor. 5:10)* hence the need for an Effective Follow-up System in our different Churches and Fellowships.

The purpose and power of follow up

Statistics have shown that a lot of first timers pass through our various Churches/Fellowships annually without being properly consolidated. In the quest to attain Church Growth, it is advisable to ensure that the front door (attraction systems like evangelism, outreach, publicity, etc) is wide open while we tighten/close the back door. In other words, we should make it very difficult for anyone that visits our Churches and Fellowships not to eventually stay. This can be understood from King David saying *”He makes me to lie down in in green pastures.”* (Ps. 25:2).

The purpose and power of follow up

The following are some tips involved in effective Follow-up:

*(A.) An Effective Follow-up begins with ensuring that the first timers had a wonderful experience in God’s Presence:* If the service is not life-transforming, the first timers may not be willing to come again. *(Ps. 23:2-3)*

*(B.) An Effective Follow-up must be aided by friendly, kind and caring attitudes of the leaders and workers in the Church:* It gives the first timers a sense of acceptance, love and belonging. It is said that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.

*(C.) Prayers and intercession should be done always for the first timers:* Real and lasting consolidation is birthed through travailing prayers. *(Gal. 4:19; Eph. 1:15-21).*

*(D.) A text message of appreciation for coming with a call alongside should be made within 24hours of their first visit.*

*(E.) Two or three persons must visit the first timers within 48hours of their first visit:* They must also visit on Saturday as a reminder for the next service.

*(F.) Ensure that the first timers pass through the training process . Ensure that they join a small group, department, cell/ homogeneous group.
