THE DANGER OF IDENTITY CRISIS

*BIBLE READING: 1 CORINTHIANS 4:15; EXODUS 3:14; JOHN 18:4-6; ROMANS 11:13*

*”When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Whom do men say that I the Son of Man am?” Matthew 16:13(NKJV)*

What is identity crisis? Identity crisis is a period of uncertainty and confusion in which a person’s sense of identity becomes insecure due to a change in their expected aims or role in society or due to advancement in age, disappointments or stress. Identity refers to the qualities, beliefs, personality traits, appearance and expressions that characterize a person. It is the essence behind your role in life.

The power and energy required to fulfill your God given destiny, achieve your goals and overcome the obstacles on your way comes from a thorough understanding of who you are and the identity you carry.

It is important both for you and the people that you are sent to that they understand who you are to them. And if they don’t, it’s your responsibility to bring that understanding to them. There are people who are sent to you, with different types of help and resources to enable you carry out your life assignment. Identity crisis will make you to veer off the track you are supposed to be running on.

And once you do, you also lose access to everything else that’s provided for you and your callings. There’s nobody, present or past, who succeeded in impacting their generation who didn’t have a consistent and clear knowledge of who they were, what their roles were and their true identity.

If you are going through identity crisis, there are a few things you can do to help get yourself back on track:

*(1.) Take some time out and go on a retreat:* Most times the stress and activities of modern life drown out the Voice of the Spirit. *(Ps. 23:2b)* It is the Spirit of God in you Who brings the understanding and clarity of your true identity. *(1Cor. 2:9-13).*

*(2.) Seek the counsel of those that have spiritual oversight over you and other mature believers in your life:* Just like your natural identity comes from your natural parents, your spiritual identity comes from your spiritual parents (your pastor).

*(3.) Go back to the things God told you in the past:* That is why you should have a journal or dream book where you write down the things the Spirit speaks to you at different times about your life and destiny.

*PRAYER:*

Thank You Lord for the identity we have in Christ Jesus by reason of the New Birth. We come against everything that wars against this Identity and that tries to distract us from the Assignment You have given us in life. Please cause us to gain clarity of purpose and singleness of heart in fulfilling our Calling and Mandate in Jesus’ Name. Amen
