The Society of Jesus, also recognized as the Jesuits, is an ecclesiastical ordinance of the Catholic Church headquartered in Rome. It was established by Ignatius of Loyola and six companions with the permission of Pope Paul III in 1540. The society is committed in evangelization and apostolic ministry in 112 nations.
